About us

Lars Rönnbäck is a neurobiologist who specializes in the support cells in the brain, the so-called glial cells. His work has focused on finding a method for understanding the signalling mechanism between the different types of brain cell, in particular that between nerve cells and glial cells. As a result of this work, Lars Rönnbäck has formulated a hypothesis about the origin of mental fatigue, where glial deterioration, primarily in the glutamate uptake capacity by astrocytes, is central.

Birgitta Johansson is a specialist in neuropsychology and is also educated as a neurobiologist. In the clinic, her work with patients with brain injuries, stroke and other neurological disorders has revealed mental fatigue to be a central problem. Consequently, our understanding of mental fatigue has developed, and the research we perform today enables clinical experience to be integrated with neurobiology and neuropsychology.
